miss kittin and the hacker were SOOOOO GOOOD!!! they sounded amazing live - i only wish the crowd was equally amazing. they played at the avalon - as part of avaland, their saturday night afterhours club - one of the stupidest, douchiest hollywood clubs ever. there were a bunch of mindless girls who are used to doing whatever they want at clubs and have no problem pushing their way through a crowd in lines of 3 or 4. i have lots more complaints about the crowd- but i'll focus on the positive :P

i could definitely pick out who was there for the show- the ones who respected your space, the ones who could actually dance. kittin looked so glamorama in her sparkly dress and headband- the sound was really great, which is another thing i really appreciate about the avalon- clear vocals, heavy bass, awesomeness. i didnt recognize all the songs, i'm dying to have them!! specifically their opening song, The Womb (i think?) and one called Indulgence - played right after frank sinatra - it was fast electro rock, i caught one of the guys who wasnt there to see them covering his ears, so you KNOW it was good, hahah.

sad day in the art world... my favorite american artist, robert rauchenberg, died at 82 today. his work in sculpture, painting, printmaking and photography influenced the way i see the world and myself- i credit a huge part of my style and vision to his work.

Just one of the promo flyers passed out in a gift bag by Flux at the Hammer Museum on Tuesday– a new quarterly screening series to feature video artists' work on a big theater screen.

The Blindness of the Woods was insanely funny- these were live actors dressed up in yarn to look like dolls living in a fairy tale forest. Next thing you know they're fucking on the bed, in the woods, in different positions. They had all their yarn parts anatomically correct-–it was pornographic, except not.

But the highlight of the night was Wanderlust, Björk's next single:

Epic, of course, I dont know if she's invested so much production into a video since "All is Full of Love." I saw the 2-D version first and was blown away by the detail in every frame–the water, rocks, yaks, mountains, grass all had layers and layers of work in them. Then we went over to another gallery space to see it in 3-D...

oh. my. god.

I loved in it 2-D, in 3-D she had me ON MY KNEES.

I had this dream on march 21... and wrote this email to marcelo immediately after it happened :)

i just woke up from a post-work nap right now.. i had a little dream of our girl yelle that i HAVE to share with you- haha.

so, for whatever reason i was living in this little town 2 hours north of L.A. called Fresno- and what a surprise- Yelle plays a show there- hahah. There's not a lot of people there but enough to make a crowd, except, i'm the only one dancing, everyone else is kinda just watching her and maybe jumping sometimes.

i get close enough to see her sweat and think- ooh, i have to shoot some video- but i panic a little because i dont remember where my camera is. during her closer, she jumps off the 2-ft stage and starts dancing in the crowd- she sees me and we start dancing together and she gave me a peck on the lips! :)

the music stops and the crowd disperses and we're left there. i tell her i love her and thank her for doing a show in FRESNO of all places- and ask her why the hell she isn't doing an l.a. show. she tells me she's working on it, but that she'll be at this club in l.a. called Health (doesnt exists, only in my dream) tomorrow night and she's just gonna hang out there and dance-dance-dance, so she invites me to come along. I said helllllllllllllllllllllll yes i'll be there!!

then somehow we were in my house and i wanted to take a picture with her before she took off but i still couldnt find my camera. i found one, wasnt mine, found another, still not mine..

then i woke up :( and i started thinking- where's my camera??? i was also kinda pissed off that i woke up and it was still dark- i tried to go back to sleep twice THEN i remembered- oh yeah, i fell asleep at 5pm.

ahhhhhh... living in the dreamworld can be fun.

Glass Candy @ the echoplex

i saw Glass Candy at the echoplex last saturday- they are so much fun live! from what i'd heard, i was expecting something more mellow & downbeat.. total opposite- i think it had to do with the volume i'm used to listening to them to- usually at work on my ipod headphones- it makes a huuuuge difference when they're super loud with heavy bass and Ida No dancing around onstage :P i love them!!

ok.. so i was kinda fine when i got into work (at 11) on Valentine's morning.. but around 3:00 pm, i was in full hangover. I tried eating this microwave rice bowl- took 2 bites and i was done. I had to make a trip to the bathroom thinking i was about to puke, but i never did. i got home and slept for like 4 hours.

so yeah, wednesday night was crafts night at akbar- i invited a bunch of people out- except, the majority including me never made it to the crafts room- we got soooo trashed- hahah. oh well.. next time...

laila and i went to see the teenagers' first US show at the echo last tuesday- they were a fun band- except, the show was soooo short, maybe like 40 minutes and no encore. i guess they just dont have that many songs.

is the day I get inked!!

I went to Incognito in Pasadena and chatted with one of the artists about what I wanted: the word heart on my inner left forearm, drawn out in negative space in organic-shaped letters, kinda like Bjork's Vespertine cover:

Behind the white letters I want decorative line art in french art noveau style- pure abstract detail. He pulled out some art noveau books and I gave him an idea of exactly what I like, so he's going to design something for me :)

I'M SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!
